Q1. How do I qualify for a 2-year JC course?

A1. The aggregate of the First Language (L1) and 5 relevant subjects (R5) is computed automatically by the Ministry of Education to determine if you qualify for a 2-year JC course.

First language (L1) refers to English/Higher Mother Tongue

The relevant 5 subjects (R5) must include:
Subject 1 - Humanities/Higher Art/Higher Music
Subject 2 - Mathematics/Science
Subject 3 - Humanities/Higher Art/Higher Music/Mathematics/Science
Subject 4 - Any O-level subject (excluding Religious Knowledge)
Subject 5 - Any O-level subject (excluding Religious Knowledge)

For admission to a junior college, a student must obtain an aggregate for First Language and 5 relevant subjects (L1R5) not exceeding 20 points. The English grade must be at least a C6; Mother Tongue at least a D7 and Mathematics at least a D7.

Q2. What are the cut-off points for the various streams at AJC?

A2. The posting is decided, based on the aggregate of the First Language (L1) and 5 relevant subjects (R5), by the Ministry of Education through its computerised system.

Our college does not determine the cut-off points. Rather, the determinants are the number of vacancies available and also the results of students who apply to AJC. The following are the past few years L1R5 (includes bonus points) cut-off points to gain admission to AJC:

Q5. Will I be allowed to offer a subject combination which is not available on the standard list?

A5. The college allows students to submit their request for customised subject combinations. These requests will be taken into consideration by the college. Due to timetabling and resource constraints, not all requests can be accepted.

Note: Please take note that H1 China Studies in English, H1 China Studies in Chinese & H2 Knowledge & Inquiry will not be offered in 2010 due to manpower constraints.

Q7. What are the college’s criteria for students to offer subject combinations comprising of 4H2 subjects?

Q9. What is the percentage of our graduated students who were offered a local university course for each cohort?

A9. Please take note that the following figures are based on information provided by the local universities i.e. NUS, NTU and SMU. On average, over the past few cohorts close to 90% of our students were offered at least one place in one of the above universities.

Q10. What are the programmes that are available in your college?

A10. For a more detailed explanation of the programmes available in our college, please click on the following links:

Q11. When will I know the result of my application?

A11. Please refer to the JAE information booklet given by your school about the admission exercise for contact sources. Do not call AJC for news of individual outcomes.

Q12. On what grounds can I base my appeal?

A12. If on academic grounds, the college will consider your results for suitability in joining classes and taking subject combinations that may have vacancies. The choice of subjects for you will be restricted.

If it is on CCA grounds, the student's ability to contribute significantly to the CCA and his/her academic ability to cope with the expectations of a JC curriculum will be considered. The college does not wish to see that the student struggles with the fast pace of lessons and lose out academically while the college benefits from his/her contributions to the CCA.

Q13. When can I appeal if I am not posted to AJC?

A13. Please look for information in the website for the date that AJC will commence the appeal process. You may then complete the relevant online form, print out a hardcopy of the form and submit it to the college general office. In addition, if appeal is through CCA, please inform the respective teacher-in-charge as well.

However, you must first report to the institution that you have been officially posted to, pending the outcome of the appeal. You will be contacted only if you are successful in your appeal.
