Direct School Admission (DSA-JC) Exercise 2011



Secondary four students may seek direct school admission into AJC before the Joint Admission Exercise (Jan/Feb 2012). We invite students who have performed consistently well academically and/or those who wish to contribute to the AJ family in any one of the following niche areas to apply through DSA.

  • -Category 1a - Academic excellence
  • -Category 1b - Science Research
  • -Category 2a - Niche CCAs Performing Arts (Choir, Contemporary/Indian Dance, Symphonic Band, Chinese Orchestra)
  • -Category 2b - Niche CCAs Sports (Volleyball, Basketball, Shooting, Wushu)
  • -Category 2c - Other areas of talent (Table Tennis / Badminton)

  • I. AJC DSA Criteria

    1a. Academic

  • -Students with good academic records, e.g. among the top 15 % of the school, or won academic competitions at the national level.

  • 1b. Science Research
  • -Have participated in long term (at least 4 weeks) science research programmes with tertiary institutions / A*STAR Research Institutes, etc.
  • OR
  • -Have participated in cluster / zonal / national / international science research based competitions. Priority will be given to those who have won top awards (e.g. Gold, Silver, Bronze) in these competitions.
  • And
    With good academic record, e.g. obtained Distinctions for at least 2 Mathematics and 2 Sciences subjects.

    2a. Performing Arts CCAs - Choir, Dance (contemporary or Indian dance), Symphonic Band and Chinese Orchestra
    bullFor candidates applying through Choir, Chinese Orchestra and Symphonic Band, priority will be given to students who have past performance experience or achievements, or who can serve in the CCA as a student conductor or sectional leader.
      For candidates applying through Dance, priority will be given to those who have (i) received professional training in Chinese Dance or Modern Dance or Indian Dance, or (ii) represented their schools as lead or main dancers in the Singapore Youth Festival Dance Competitions.

    2b. Sports CCAs - Volleyball, Basketball, Shooting, Wushu
  • -National Team player / National Youth player / Combined Schools player.
    OR
  • -Member of school team that achieved top four positions in the National 'B' Division championship.
    OR
  • -Outstanding individual in the sports event.  Example, for Shooting, an excellent Air Rifle shooter with personal best of 375 points.

  • 2c. Other areas of talent
  • -Students with talents in the following CCAs - Table Tennis / Badminton, and have represented the school in national or international competitions.  Priority will be given to those who have won awards. 

  • Applicants for Categories 2a, 2b and 2c must have demonstrated ability to cope with the demanding ‘A’ level curriculum.  In addition, these applicants may be required to attend skills assessment conducted by the college. Candidates will be selected based on relevant skills and past achievements. The offer of the DSA place is subject to the vacancies available for the particular CCA and role.

    All shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview between 23 June and 20 July 2011.

    II. Application Procedure


    The 2011 DSA-JC Exercise comprises the following phases and stages which will be conducted between June & August 2011:
    a. Phase 1 - From 27 Jun to 3 Aug 2011 (offer stage - 27 June to 26 Jul; Acceptance Stage – 27 Jul to 29 Jul; Cooling Off Stage – 1 Aug to 3 Aug 2011)
    b. Phase 2 - From 1 Aug to 24 Aug 2011  (offer stage – 1 Aug to 16 Aug; Acceptance Stage – 19 Aug to 24 Aug 2011). 
  • -Application via DSA to AJC is open.
  • -Application forms can be downloaded here.
  • -Application will close on 8 July 2011but we encourage all application forms to be submitted before 1 July 2011to facilitate the arrangement for skills assessments. Applications should reach AJC by 8 July 2011, 4pm,
    1. Via hardcopy submission in person to AJC General Office
  • -For hardcopy submission, the application form should include the following supporting documents:
    1. Copies of secondary 1 to 3 school examinations report cards, and secondary 4 mid-year Exam / Test results.
    2. Copies of CCA records/certificates of achievements/awards (if any), related especially to the niche area you are applying for.
    3. Recommendation letter from school (if any).

    III. Selection Trial Details
  • -Category 2 applicants have a choice of two dates for skills assessment depending on the niche performing arts, sports CCA or other CCA applied for:
