Subjects Offered

Conditions

H2 Mathematics

  • For students in the Science Stream, the student must have offered Additional Mathematics and preferably have obtained C6 or better in Additional Mathematics at the GCE 'O' Level Examinations.
  • For students in the Arts Stream, the student must have offered Additional Mathematics and obtained a combined score of at most 4 in both Elementary Mathematics and Additional Mathematics at the GCE 'O' Level Examinations.

 

 

Physics, Chemistry & Biology

H2: Should preferably have obtained:

  • B3 or better in the respective pure science subjects or
  • A2 or better in the relevant combined science subjects

H1(Phy & Chem): Should preferably have obtained:

  • C6 or better in the respective pure science subjects or the relevant combined science subjects

H2 Chinese Language and Literature
(H2 CLL)

Preferably

  • Students with at least  a C6 in Higher Chinese
  • Students with no Higher Chinese, but have obtained at least an A2 in ‘O’ level Chinese, will have to sit for an aptitude test

H1 General Studies in Chinese (GSC)

Preferably

  • Students with at least a C6 in Higher Chinese
  • Students with no Higher Chinese but have obtained at least an A2 in ‘O’ level Chinese

Chinese Language ‘B’ (CLB)

To offer CLB, students must meet any of the following 2 criteria:

  • Offered Chinese Language B Syllabus (CLB) in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination
  • Obtained D7, E8 or F9 for Chinese Language in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination

 

  • Number of Subjects to Offer

In addition to GP, MTL* and PW, all students are to offer 3 H2 and 1 H1 content-based subjects, at least one of which is a subject from a contrasting discipline. (*Except those who have passed with at least a D7 in Higher Mother Tongue Language at ‘O’ level . Please refer to the Joint Admission Exercise Prospectus 2012 for further details of exemption.)

 

III.  SUBJECT COMBINATIONS      

  • A BOLD box   indicates a contrasting subject.
  • The total number of units indicated includes compulsory subjects General Paper, Mother Tongue Language and Project Work.

 

  • ** The counting of units is as follows: 2 units for each H2 subject, 1 unit for each H1 subject, i.e. General Paper, Project Work and Mother Tongue Language.  One unit for MT Language will be included in the counting even if a student is exempted from taking the subject at the ‘A’ level examination. 
  • * To offer H3, students must offer the same subject at H2. The following H3 subjects are offered: English Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.

^ Arts students who wish to read H2 Math as a contrasting subject must have:
- offered both Elementary Mathematics and Additional Mathematics at O-Level;
- obtained a distinction (A1 or A2) for either subject; and
- obtained a combined score of 4 or better for both subjects.

 

# Students who wish to offer a H2 Geog-Hist combination must have:
- offered both History and Geography, as an elective or pure subject, at O-Level; and
- obtained a grade of B3 or better for both Combined Humanities (History or Geography Elective) and Pure History or Geography.

(c)    Criteria for Students to Offer Subjects at H3 Level
Application for H3 modules will open after the Promotional Examination results are released.
Students who wish to offer the SMU H3 Course, NUS H3 Course, NTU H3 course or MOE H3 modules in JC 2 must meet ALL of the following criteria:

 

JC1
Promotional
Examination

  • Must have obtained a grade ‘A’ in the pre-requisite H2 subject(s).
  • Must have obtained a least a Grade ‘B’ in all other H2 subjects.
  • Must pass all other subjects.

 

JC1 mid-year
common test

  • Must have obtained at least a Grade ‘B’ in the prerequisite H2 subject(s).
  • Must pass all other subjects.

 

GCE ‘O’ Level
Examination

Must have obtained the following results at one sitting:
- Distinction in the relevant subject, and
- Distinctions in 4 specified subjects.

Total number of units

The maximum number of academic units is 12.

Other criteria

  • The number of H3 subjects to be offered by each student is capped at 1.
  • Students who are waiting for the selection results of the NUS/NTU/SMU H3 modules may apply for the MOE H3 module. They should drop the MOE H3 module once they are selected for the NUS/NTU/SMU H3 module.
  • As stipulated by the institutions offering the H3 module.
